How to find a job on LinkedIn

The LinkedIn platform is a great job search tool. It can help you find potential employers in your field, as well as specific LinkedIn job offers from top employers. That’s why we’re going to share with you some tips and tricks on how to work with LinkedIn profile marketing and how to find a job through LinkedIn. A user’s LinkedIn profile is divided into several sections – header, profile, summary, work experience section, education section or even recommendations or references from employers and colleagues. If you fill out your profile to the max, LinkedIn will mark it with a virtual “All-star” badge (a label for the best). This means, among other things, that you’ll be more visible to other users. We believe we’ve already answered the question of what LinkedIn is, you’ve already completed your LinkedIn registration and you know how to use LinkedIn. So let’s go over how you should fill out each section of your profile.

LinkedIn personal profile header

The header includes your name, LinkedIn profile photo, a cover photo (also called a LinkedIn background image), and a motto in the form of LinkedIn’s profile tagline. Always include your name on LinkedIn without titles, whether academic or even those of nobility, for example. This is because it is not common to include titles abroad, even more so in an online presentation. This is not only coming to our environment via LinkedIn. In the end, it is the carefully filled-in profile information that speaks volumes about your qualities. Many users don’t have a photo uploaded to their LinkedIn profile. This is a pity for many reasons, for example because a potential visitor to your profile cannot associate your face with your name. Your LinkedIn profile photo is therefore the basis of your personal presentation. If you decide to have a profile photo, choose it according to your target group and how you want to present yourself. Forget about “selfies” from holidays or bars. The LinkedIn cover photo, is the initial photo that completes the visual of your work profile, so it’s ideal to include a picture with a work context. That is, a picture that at first glance is related to your profession. You can also get inspiration from the “Professional LinkedIn Profile Photo” article on LinkedIn. Let’s discuss the “headline” of your profile, which you’ll find right below your name and is called your LinkedIn motto. This often leads to a misunderstanding of its purpose. The point of the motto is not to showcase a favourite ancient quote or other life wisdom – the motto is purely to summarize and convey your knowledge and expertise in a few words. So if you’re in the copywriting business, for example, your motto could sound like this: “A creative writing instructor who will deliver your brand’s story.”

How to work with LinkedIn effectively

The summary is the profile section under its header, where you have exactly 2,000 characters to briefly and persuasively summarize and describe your experience, work achievements, accomplishments and abilities. Be authentic and specific when describing them. If you are a programmer, mention how many years of experience you have in the field, and include interesting work experience or programming courses (you should also check coding tips for beginners) and certificates you have taken or obtained. But forget rehearsed phrases, clichés and poses. Try to differentiate yourself from others.

Work experience

In this section, also known as your LinkedIn CV, give a retrospective view of your work experience. For each job, fill in the job title, for example Java developer. Include the type of employment, the name or title of the employer, and the location. A job description of your previous job should also be an integral part of it. Describe briefly what your job was, what you were responsible for or what you achieved. For clarity, we recommend that you write the experience text in bullet points. You can also add external documents, photos, videos, presentations or links.

Education and qualification

Another section that is all about your education. Here you should enter the name of the school and the fields you studied, the academic degrees you have obtained and, if applicable, other information about your studies (length of studies, volunteer activities, etc.). Don’t hesitate to mention your exam results, projects or other achievements.

All-star profile

Now let’s follow up on the mentioned all-star rating at the beginning of the article, which is LinkedIn’s way of referring to well-completed and well-managed profiles. To earn this rating, simply follow the platform’s guide, which gives you tips and recommendations on what else needs to be completed on your profile. However, you definitely shouldn’t miss a properly filled out name, title (LinkedIn motto or profile tagline), location, job field, a high-quality LinkedIn profile photo, and at least two job titles. You must have at least 50 connections with other LinkedIn users. If you manage to get an all-star profile rating, in addition to your own good feelings, you may also be warmed by the knowledge that the LinkedIn platform algorithm favors these profiles, so their posts have more impact. You’ll simply be more visible on LinkedIn.
