Unix Linux System Administrator responsibilities

  • Administration of Unix/Linux server infrastructure based on physical and virtual machines.
  • Responsibility for central Unix update management for server systems.
  • Responsibility for backup and operation of the data storage systems (NetApp, Dell EMC2 Networker).
  • Establishing a reliable and efficient interface between IT operations and software development, analysing requirements, and ensuring seamless delivery of our services.
  • Second-level support, resolving error tickets and requests from our project areas.
  • Ensuring smooth operations and compliance with data protection and security regulations.
  • Creating and updating system documentation.
  • Accepting, creating, and implementing changes to the working environment.

Unix/Linux System Administrator job requirements

  • Several years of professional experience in the administration of complex Unix systems (Linux, AIX) in a global data centre environment.
  • Good knowledge of Linux and Docker/Kubernetes.
  • Understanding of cloud-based applications.
  • Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery, orchestration, and configuration management.
  • Knowledge of network and infrastructure services (DNS, VLAN, firewalling).
  • Experience with monitoring, configuration, and visualisation tools (Check-mk, Ansible, GIT, Grafana).
  • Knowledge of application and server virtualisation, and storage management (NetApp, Dell).
  • Basic knowledge of Active Directory.
  • Good communication skills in German and English (minimum B2 level).
  • Independence, responsibility, reliability, and a team-oriented mindset.
